Ripogenus Dam In Maine
The Penobscot River is one of the premier locations in Northern Maine to go white water rafting. The enjoyable activity happens below this Dam.
I don’t even think the highly experienced rafters would want to go down the water in the fast moving water picture. The dam is fully open because it’s spring time and the water levels are rising as a result of melting ice and snow.
I also included a few pictures of when the river is low below the dam.
Ripogenus dam was built in 1920 and can be accessed by the Golden Road. The original purpose of the dam was too control the flow of the river to move the pulp, which was banned in the 1970’s.
The dam is approximately 73 feet high and around 695 feet wide.
