The amazing creature is part of the species “Equidae”. Horses have evolved from a small multi-toed animal into the large, single-toed mammal we are all familiar with today. There are now over 300 different breeds of horses.

A horses life expectancy is only 25-30 years while some horses have been known to live into their 40′s, its a rare exception rather than a rule. The oldest known horse was “Old Billy” who lived to be an astonishing 62 years old.

As we all know horses love to eat hay and thats their main source of nutrients, but did you know that they can consume 2 percent of their body fat worth of the dry weeds everyday? A thousand pound horse could eat up to 25 pounds of food a day.

Another interesting fact is they require about 10-12 gallons of water in each day.
